Educational Programs
Tutors are available to help with coursework, English language proficiency, earning a GED, and overcoming barriers to literacy. We also offer ESL (English as a second language) and computer skills classes.  

US Citizenship Class
The Citizenship class is offered once a year. Registration and Orientation for the next Citizenship class is January 2014. The Citizenship class will run in February 2014 at the Healing Center in room 481. 

Do you want help preparing for the Citizenship test? Have you dreamed of becoming a citizen of America? This is the course for you. Questions can be directed to Rita Bugh Parr via email at rparr1 [@] cinci.rr.com. She will get back with you with the information you need.

Computer Classes
Classes are offered Wednesday thru Saturday mornings, 10:30am-12noon, and Thursday evenings, 7-8:30pm, in the Computer Lab. Please call the front desk at 346-4080 to register for classes. Click here for detailed information on class dates and times.

*Important: Computer and Email Basics class and Typing Skills or equivalent course/experience elsewhere are prerequisites for these classes.

Brush up on old computer and keyboard skills or learn new skills for a new job with free online computer classes.

GED and Literacy Skills Tutoring
Tutors are available that can help in reading, language, math, science, and social studies. GED tutoring is currently available only in English.  ESL classes are a prerequisite for entering the GED program. Weekly study sessions help prepare for the GED test. Group classes or private tutoring is available. There is a $5/pre-GED book fee and a $10/GED book fee. To register, please leave a message at 513-346-4080 ext. 389 or email education [at] healingcentercincinnati.org.

  • No GED tutoring available May 25 or July 4.

Some helpful first steps:

  • Bring any test results you may have to the tutoring sessions.
  • If you have not taken a pre-test, contact Kathy Scahill, (513) 369-4570, from the Cincinnati Public Library for available times for free GED testing OR go to www.GEDpractice.com for online practice tests.
  • If you are not able to do any of the above, feel free to attend a tutoring session to get started.

ESL Classes
ESL Classes help improve lifeskills and knowledge of speaking, reading, and writing the English language.  For more information, contact Marilyn Tanis (duanetanis [@] fuse.net).
No registration is required - just show up any Wednesday or Saturday morning, 10:30am-12pm, at Healing Center classroom 482.

  • Classes run for 10 weeks followed by a 2 week break.
  • No ESL classes available May 22-25 or June 26-July 6.

Clase de Inglés
No se requiere inscribir. Cada Miercoles y Sabado in salon 482, 10:30am-12mediodia. (cualquier nivel de ingles)

  • Las clases duran 10 semanas sequidas por un descanso de 2 semanas.
  • No hay clases los dias que siquen: El 22 de Mayo hasta el 25 de Mayo o el 26 de Junio hasta el 6 de Julio.

There are at least 6 different levels available all complete with video lessons,exercises after each lesson,  vocabulary lists, reading/listening practice and comprehension checks, dictation exercises, quizzes and tests, and even a chat option set up to cater the the different levels.

Covers some of the finer grammar points and takes a good look at bettering ones academic English (especially for testing purposes). There are even a few sections that deal specfically with business English and preparing learners for TOEFL and TOEIC tests. 

Click here to visit BBCFor very advanced students, the BBC has some great resources to learn idioms and phrases, and showcases their use in the news. Learners can get English practice by taking quizzes related to news articles.
